A lab notebook that reads itself (sample) Deep tech

Turn a term of handwritten experiments into a searchable record.

Sample brief

This is an example while our first real briefs are being written. The shape is right; the specifics are illustrative.

The problem

Undergraduate lab notebooks are handwritten, graded once, and then unreadable to everyone including their author. A department loses the same negative result every year because nobody can find last year's.

Why now

Handwriting recognition on mixed text, tables and diagrams stopped being the blocker, and a department's own notebooks are a corpus nobody else has.

The wedge

One course's notebooks for one term, scanned, made searchable, and put in front of the TAs who grade them.

First customers

One chemistry department that already scans for moderation.

What people do today

A shelf, and asking the professor who remembers.

What working looks like

A term of notebooks searchable in under an hour of staff time, and a TA choosing it over the shelf.

Why Kampus wants this built

Universities are the one customer a student team can reach without a sales motion, and this is a problem their own department has.

What we do not know

Whose data is it — the student's, the supervisor's, or the institution's? That question decides the product, and we have not answered it.

Who you might need

One student comfortable with document models and evaluation, one who has TA'd a wet lab, and one who can make a search result readable.

On market size

Indicative only: the buyer is a department, the value is institutional memory, and neither is priced today.
